St. Mary’s School and Prayer Center, Sisai
The IMS mission at Sisai is in the Catholic diocese of Gumla. Gumla is a district in Jharkhand State. Sisai is about 60 kms from Ranchi.
Most of the areas of the district of Gumla are underdeveloped due to poverty, illiteracy, unemployment, lack of developmental works, ill health, corruption, political rivalry and other reasons. Agriculture is their only sustenance, and their very small holdings are not good for farming. With little means of irrigation, they depend fully on rain for cultivation, which is irregular and unpredictable.
Though the government made efforts to reach primary education to every village, it was done shabbily; sufficient funds were not timely and did not reach the beneficiaries. An insufficient number of teachers were employed and they were not paid regularly. As a result, in many of the government-run schools the teachers are less than required and education suffers.
Most of the local communities are of different tribal, the scheduled castes and the backward classes. Because of the socio-religious and economic problems of this area, many become alcoholics, they are unorganized and have no savings of any sort. Mostly unskilled laborers, they collect firewood from the forest to sell at a very low price. The literacy rate is very low and they are prey to many superstitions and unhealthy practices.
Currently, the center runs the following apostolic activities:
- A day-long intensive prayer service is conducted regularly for laity on first Sunday of every month. The prayer service includes, fasting, preaching the Word of God, celebration of sacrament of reconciliation, witnessing and sharing of experiences by the participants, holy mass and healing prayer.
- A day-long intensive prayer service is conducted for students on the last Sunday of every month. The prayer service for students includes the same activities as said above.
- A day-long intensive prayer service is conducted for couples, broken families and parents on the second Sunday of every month. The prayer service for this group also includes similar activities as mentioned above.
- A day-long intensive prayer service is conducted for alcoholics on the third Sunday of every month. This prayer service includes the same activities as said above.
- Three-day residential annual retreats for boys and girls separately.
- Spiritual counseling for individuals and families.
- Education ministry for orphans and poor children. Currently, 20 children are staying in the hostel and doing their studies. All their expenses are met by the Regional house.
- Pastoral ministries for catholic families such as house visits, administration of sacraments to sick and suffering in families, hospital and villages, etc.

Presently, the apostolic activities running in this mission are:

- Regular monthly meetings of parish associations for men, women and youth.

The IMS Ranchi Region manages St. George’s English Medium School, which is in the district and Catholic diocese of Amravati in Maharashtra State. Located about 10 km from the city, the school is in a growing stage and is currently up to 10th standard. More than 600 students are getting a quality education in the school.

Gobrigarha, Bolba, Simdega
By the request of the Bishop of Simdega Diocese, the IMS Ranchi Region is procuring land to work for the overall development of the people of this area. Totally rural, the nearest town is around 40 km away. Therefore, the people are deprived of quality education, medical facilities, pastoral care, etc.
